The short update session is run by a venepuncture specialist trainer.
There will be an opportunity to practice with winged sets if required. The trainer will provide you with a refresher of your competencies and health and safety whilst undertaking phlebotomy.

Participants 

This two-hour phlebotomy update is for Isle of Wight Healthcare professionals already practicing venepuncture or those who need to refresh their skills.

Course content

• Aseptic non-touch technique revision
• Anatomy revision and vein selection
• Methods to find difficult veins
• Blood sampling errors and how to avoid them
• Course discussion and collaborative learning
• Practical session using a range of equipment
• Course quiz

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, all participants should be able to:

• Demonstrate safe practice using a variety of techniques
• Explain how to reduce the potential for sample errors
